Zinc Fertilization of Rice Grown on Clay Soils in Arkansas
نویسنده
چکیده
Zinc (Zn) fertilizer is not currently recommended for rice grown on clay or clay loam soils in Arkansas. In 2003, eight field sites were established to evaluate the response of rice grown on clay soils to Zn fertilization. Shortly before or after seeding, granular Zn fertilizer was applied to the soil surface at rates of 0, 5, 10, and 20 lb Zn/acre. Tissue Zn concentration 10 to 14 days after flooding and grain yield response to Zn fertilization rate were evaluated. At the eight sites, the mean soil pH ranged from 6.0 to 8.0 and Mehlich-3-extractable Zn ranged from 2.0 to 11.4 lb Zn/acre. Seven of the eight sites had soil pH >7.0 and Mehlich-3 Zn >5.6 lb Zn/acre. Rice grain yield and dry matter accumulation at midtillering were not significantly affected by Zn fertilization rate, averaged across locations. Midtillering tissue Zn concentrations increased as Zn rate increased, but showed that only one site had mean tissue Zn concentrations that could be considered low to deficient. Zinc does not appear to be a major yield-limiting factor for rice grown on clay soils.

Nitrogen Fertilizer by Two Rice Cultivars Grown on an Arkansas Clay Soil
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown on a clay soil in a direct-seeded, delayed-flood system as used in the southern U.S. requires 30 to 60 lb/acre more nitrogen (N) fertilizer to achieve maximal grain yields compared to rice grown on silt loam soils. Seasonal N fertilizer accumulation studies are almost non-existent for rice grown on clay soils. Therefore, a two-year field study was conducted to evalu...
متن کاملRICE CULTURE Validation of the Nitrogen Soil Test for Rice (N-STaR) on Clay Soils in Arkansas
The development of the Nitrogen Soil Test for Rice (N-STaR) allowed site-specific nitrogen (N) recommendations for rice on silt loam soils in Arkansas. Expansion of the site-specific N test into clay soils and its use in 27 counties in Arkansas necessitated the validation of N-STaR for rice produced on clay soil. In 2014, 6 sites across Arkansas were selected for their wide difference in native...

The effect of seeding depth on emergence of red rice (Oryza sativa) ecotypes from Arkansas (AR), Louisiana (LA), and Mississippi (MS) was determined under dry-seeded rice production in clay and silt loam soils in Arkansas. By 21 d after planting (DAP), all red rice ecotypes had emerged from planting depths of 1.3, 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5 cm in both clay and silt loam soils. In silt loam soil, seedlin...

Use of soft clay soils in construction activities has faced many problems. Some improvement, stabilization, and reinforcement methods is required to use these soils in body of roads, sub-foundations and embankments. In this research, the effect of chitin nanofiber and rice husk ash as additives on the behavioral properties and bearing resistance of soft clay soils by considering the processing ...
متن کاملDirect and residual phosphorus effects on grain yieldphosphorus uptake relationships in upland rice on an ultisol in West Africa
Phosphorus (P) deficiency is a major constraint to crop production on highly weathered, lowactivity clay soils in the humid zone of West Africa. Past research suggested a linear relationship between grain yield and P uptake over a range of fertilizer P applied to upland rice cultivars. However, there is lack of information on how these relationships are affected by the long-term fertilizer ...
